So many buildings I see when I'm walking around have security cameras installed. For years I would mentally edit them out and not include them in my drawings of houses because of how ugly I thought they were. But when we ignore the invasion of our privacy and pretend it isn't happening, we actually make ourselves even more vulnerable to it.

People install security cameras because we live in a culture of fear and alienation from our communities. These devices are then used by corporations to collect data about their owners to sell to advertisers. Even when people are made aware that their smart home devices are spying on them, they continue to use them because they think this infringement is an unavoidable trade-off for comfort and security. If enough people notice and care, the erosion of privacy is not an inevitability that we just have to numb ourselves to. I like bringing attention to cameras in my drawings by depicting them as sentient beings with starry eyes that silently watch the other characters.
